Friends of Aileu film screening: award-winning documentary Anote’s Ark

This powerful film follows the story of Kiribati’s fight against rising sea levels, from the international advocacy of former President Anote Tong to the personal journey of Sermary Tiare, a young mother facing the reality of displacement. This film is an intimate and urgent portrait of the human faces of the climate crisis, and the cultural loss threatening entire nations. The evening will feature guest speakers exploring climate leadership, cultural resilience, and grassroots solutions to global challenges. 

All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards supporting a young East-Timorese Australian to attend the Future Collective Timor trip. Supporting them to attend is about strengthening cross-cultural connections, promoting leadership skills and deepening their connection to culture.

Based on the highly successful CERES Global Sustainable Fashion trip in 2019, we’re returning to India with a hands-on exploratory journey understanding the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. We’ll share discussion and ideas with makers and farmers about shifting the fast fashion industry towards a more sustainable future, and get hands-on learning sustainable practices.

Last week, Benedict and Lily attended the Q&A screening of Damon Gameau’s new feature documentary Future Council — a coming-of-age journey that dares to imagine a brighter future. It follows eight young people on a road trip across Europe to challenge and collaborate with powerful leaders and find solutions to our greatest ecological challenges. More than just a film, Future Council is a child-led movement that inspires and empowers young people to lead.
